Riehn, Effie Elizabeth (nee Barks)

Effie Elizabeth Riehn, age 101, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Jackson Manor Nursing Home in Jackson.
She was born November 13, 1911, near Oak Ridge, daughter of Henry and Sarah Hahs Barks. She and Ernest Riehn were married January 20, 1943 in Jackson. He passed away May 19, 1972.
Effie was the third of five children. She moved from Oak Ridge to Jackson in 1937, and worked at the former Byrd Poultry Farm, the former Jackson Dress Factory, the former Jackson Hosiery Mill, the former Coney-Island Cafe, and the former Litz Poultry all in Jackson. She was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church in Jackson, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson since 1942, where she was active in WMU, enjoyed singing in the JOY Choir, and working in the kitchen.
Loving survivors include; a son and daughter-in-law, Dewey and Virginia Riehn of Ashland, MO; their children, Renee Carr, DuWain Riehn, Melissa Riehn, Lori Riehn and Ernest Riehn; Doyle and Carol’s two sons, Brannon Riehn, and Gregg Riehn; a sister, Hazel Barks Henson of Jackson; six great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Doyle Riehn, and his wife, Carol Sue Lincoln Riehn, and their daughter, Julia Riehn, a brother, Rev. Loy Barks, and two sisters, Frieda Martin, Gladys Bollinger.
Friends may call Monday, March 25, 2013 from 4-8 PM at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. The funeral service will be Tuesday, at 10:00 AM at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tommy Weems officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to First Baptist Church in Jackson Mission Fund, or to Crown Hospice of Cape Girardeau.
