Probst, Theodore J.

The Rev. Theodore J. "Ted" Probst, 82, of 2022 Montgomery, died Friday, Dec. 27, 1991, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was an ordained United Methodist minister serving churches in Missouri, including Maple Avenue United Methodist church in Cape Girardeau from 1960-1973.

He was born Oct. 2, 1909 in Millersville, the son of Henry D. Probst and Blanche Eva Statler. He first married the former Helen Hendrix on Feb. 26, 1937. She preceded him in death Oct 31, 1969. He then married Mildred Berry Bruster on Nov. 12, 1976. She survives.

Probst was ordained a minister in 1937. In addition to serving at the Maple Avenue church, he served Missouri churches in Manchester, Houston, Elvins, Farmington, DeSoto, Chaffee, Senath and Hermann. He retired from Maple Avenue in 1973.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 103 in Millersville and assistant chaplain at Southeast Missouri Hospital. He was a past member of the Chaffee Rotary Club and the Senath Lions Club.

Probst was a graduate of Jackson High School. He attended Southeast Missouri State University and Bolivar College, and graduated from Eden Seminary.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Judith Fluegge, Millersville; one stepson, Earl Bruster, Cape Girardeau; six step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at the Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Dace officating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation and a Masonic service were held Saturday.
