Kasten, Mildred "Irma" (nee Leimer)
Mildred “Irma” Kasten, 93, formerly of Jackson and Altenburg, MO, fell asleep in Jesus Wednesday, September 15, 2004, at Saxony Village in Cape Girardeau.
She was born March 20, 1911, in Fruitland, MO, daughter of Theodore H. and Louise B. Pfeiffer Leimer. She and Oscar “Buster” Kasten were married May 7, 1933. He passed away November 12, 2003.
Irma was baptized April 2, 1911, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. She was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Altenburg and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. She was both a child and a servant of the Lord’s. Her whole life was directed by these two roles. She earnestly sought the Lord’s counsel and she drew upon her faith to see no one as a stranger. As a caretaker throughout her life, she opened herself up to include many people as family. She shared the daily and spiritual things of life. She did this always with zest and spunk.
Loving survivors include one son, Robert Ronald Kasten and wife, Barbara, of Meritt Island, FL; three brothers, Tilman Leimer of Cape Girardeau, Ervin Leimer of St. Louis, MO, and Wilmer Leimer of Perryville; one sister, Nelda Ludwig of Pocahontas, MO; two grandchildren, Michael Kasten and wife, Becky of Champaign, IL, and Julie Johnston and husband, Derek of Oak Ridge, NC; five great-grandchildren, Isaac, August, Sadie, and Ella Kasten all of Champaign, IL, and Brett Johnston of Oak Ridge, NC.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Buster; a daughter, Joann Kasten; two brothers; and one sister.
Friends may call Friday, September 17, between 4-8 PM, at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson and after 9:00 AM Saturday, September 18th at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. Funeral Service will be Saturday, at 10:00 AM, at the church, with Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Southeast Missouri Hospice.
