A funeral will be held Wednesday, July 24, 2013 for 85-year-old Herbert J. Hotop of Perryville who died July 20, 2013 at his residence.
He was born June 28, 1928 in Perry County, the son of Alphonse A. and Rose L. (Welker) Hotop.
He married Rose M. Schumer on November 23, 1950. She survives in Perryville.
Other survivors include three sons, Steve (Cheryl) Hotop of Perryville, John (Melanie) Hotop of Folsom, Louisiana, Dominic (Paula) Hotop of Perryville; 10 daughters: Brenda (Larry) Schmidt of Perryville, Donna (Gary) Brown of Arab, Alabama, Nancy (Fred) Heberlie of Jefferson City, Anne (Dr. James) Craig of Red Cloud, Nebraska, Cindy (Charles) Wills of Cedar Hill, Rosemarie (Charles) LaRose of Perryville, Jane (Steve) Kueker of Perryville, Dorothy (Joseph) Windisch of Jefferson City, Angela (Tim) Francis of Perryville, Rebecca (Ken) Lewis of Kansas City; two brothers: Robert (Mary) Hotop of Cape Girardeau and Rueben Hotop of Perryville; 37 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son Larry Francis Hotop; three brothers: Wallace, Joseph and Clyde Hotop; and a sister Rita Mueller.
He was a retired aircraft mechanic for Sabreliner Corporation.
He was a 4-H leader and member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Faithful Adorer of Blessed Sacrament, Knights of Columbus Council 1263, American Legion Post 133 Booster, Perry County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
He served the community as a Perryville city alderman in the 1970’s and as Perry County Public Administrator for two terms in the early 1980’s.
Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. Tuesday, July 23 and 6:30-10 a.m. Wednesday, July 24 at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. A parish wake will be held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and the rosary Wednesday at 9 a.m.
A funeral for 85-year-old Herbert J. Hotop of Perryville will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Milton Ryan CM will officiate.
Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to Serenity Hospice or Vitae Society.
